HellermannTyton is committed to cable management innovation that supports responsible consumption and production in line with global climate targets. Our greatest contribution to reducing environmental impact lies in the carbon emissions of the raw materials we use to make our products. That's why Source is focused on sustainable materials and design.

Source products are manufactured with plastics recovered from recycled waste or marine environments, derived from renewable plant-based sources, or use materials with lower equivalent emissions. HellermannTyton also offers product solutions that – by design – reduce waste or support reusability and recyclability.

How the Source story began
We've been practising sustainability for many years. For example, we recover and regrind production waste and mix a percentage of it with parts that do not require 100% virgin material.

Supporting circularity
Using plastics that originate from post-industrial waste helps keep it out of landfill sites whilst reducing our dependency on new engineering plastic derived from finite fossil resources.

Industry trailblazers

In 2021, we collaborated with Ford Motor Co. on a new wiring harness part for the Ford Bronco™ Sport. It's made from plastic recovered from ghost fishing nets. The part won first prize in the SPE Automotive Innovation Awards, Environment category.

Custom sustainable products

We can manufacture custom channels, brackets and clips for your needs from several sustainable materials.
The relatively large size of these parts can represent a significant opportunity in meeting sustainability goals. Replacing metal components in vehicles also contributes to reducing weight and saving the energy required to move it.

There are several options we employ to reduce a product’s carbon footprint:

  • Manufacture the part with 100 percent renewable material, like PA11.
  • Incorporate natural cellulose filler or recovered waste to reduce the amount of plastic used.
  • Select polymers that have a better carbon emissions equivalent.
  • Use 100% PIR in place of virgin material.
  • Design parts for reuse.

As we look over the horizon at what we can create for our customers, we see that we’re only just at the beginning of this journey and are excited to be an industry trailblazer in sustainable cable management solutions.
